There are two versions of the U.S. civics (citizenship) test. The 2008 test has 100 questions and the 2025 test has 128 questions. The version you take is decided by the date you filed your Form N-400 — not by the year of your interview. That is why you will see both “100 civics questions” and “128 civics questions” online. All of the questions and their accepted answers are below and in the free practice tools.

What is the difference between 100 and 128 civics questions?
They are two versions of the civics test. The 2008 version has 100 questions, and the 2025 version has 128 questions. Which one you take depends on the date you filed your Form N-400 application, not on the year you interview. That is why you may see both numbers online.
Which citizenship test do I take in 2026?
It depends on when you filed Form N-400. If you filed before October 20, 2025, you generally take the 2008 civics test (100 questions). If you filed on or after October 20, 2025, you generally take the 2025 civics test (128 questions). Always confirm current requirements on the official USCIS website, because rules can change.
How many civics questions are asked at the interview?
On the 2008 test (100 questions), the officer asks up to 10 questions and you must answer 6 correctly to pass. On the 2025 test (128 questions), the officer asks up to 20 questions and you must answer 12 correctly to pass.
How many questions do I need to answer correctly to pass?
On the 2008 test you need 6 correct out of 10. On the 2025 test you need 12 correct out of 20. Applicants who qualify for the 65/20 special consideration study a smaller set of questions marked with an asterisk.
Can I practice the citizenship test for free?
Yes. Every civics question is free to practice on this site using flashcards, a quick practice quiz, a full quiz, and an interview simulator. You do not need to pay to study the questions.
Can I print the citizenship test questions?
Yes. The printable PDF study pack available with the Full Pass is formatted so you can print all the questions and accepted answers, plus the English and Spanish bonus study guides, and review them on paper.
Are the civics test questions multiple choice?
At the real naturalization interview, the civics test is spoken: a USCIS officer asks the questions out loud and you answer verbally. Our practice tools include multiple-choice flashcards and type-your-answer modes so you can prepare in different ways before the spoken test.
Where can I find the official USCIS questions?
The official civics questions and study materials are published by USCIS at uscis.gov under the citizenship study resources section. This site is an independent study aid that helps you practice those questions and is not affiliated with USCIS.
